Data.World has a modern Data Catalog Management solution. This article post shows how to use this solution using a Snowflake Data Cloud connection.
What is a Data Catalog and a Graph Architecture ?
A Data Catalog can be used to list all of the tables, views, columns, data types and attributes from a database or analytical reports. The Graph Architecture can reveal the hidden relationships between assets, people, domains, and processes.
Configuration
To create a Snowflake connection, go to the Data.World lateral menu and click on Integrations.
Search and select the Snowflake connection.
Click on Enable Integration.
Add a new Snowflake connection using your credentials. For this article we will connect to SNOWFLAKE_SAMPLE_DATA database which has lots of tables which can be used to understand Data.World.
If successful you should receive a message like this.
To verify the connection, click on Integrations, go to My Integrations and click on the Manage link per the image bellow.
You should see your Snowflake connection.
Now let's create a Dataset. Click on the + New link on the top of the screen.
Click on Create new Dataset.
Click on Add data.
Click on the the Snowflake connection created before.
On the source type screen, click on Use live table.
Select the schema TPCH_SF1 from Snowflake Sample Data.
Select all of the tables to import. Note: Data.World only saves the metadata but doesn't save any data on its platform.
If successful you should receive a message like this.
Search for the MyDataset created before.
If successful you should see all of the tables created under the Data.World data catalog.
Conclusion
Data.World has powerful Data Catalog Platform which allows an unified view of all of your metadata resources. It is a must have solution for any company which has any data spread out on several databases, reports and also wants to adapt to any AI technology.
